Asolo, landscape of artists

A landscape of extraordinary beauty has welcomed and inspired artists and writers over the centuries, between Asolo and the Monte Grappa. Among gentle hills and solemn mountains, ancient traces of art and history intertwine with the contemporary cultural vitality and creativity of many craftsmen.

An amazing view over the territory can be enjoyed from the city of a hundred horizons, Asolo, a retreat of many famous people including the Queen Cornaro and Pietro Bembo, Francesco Malipiero and the 19^th century "divine" actress Eleonora Duse. At the foot of the hill, Villa di Maser was conceived and, unique among the villas of Andrea Palladio, still is today the organizational hub of a generous countryside. Here excellent local products such as olive oil, honey, and the DOC wines Montello and Asolo Hills are grown.

In the nearby Possagno the works of Antonio Canova still characterize the artist's birthplace: the magnificent neoclassical temple designed by himself dominates the countryside, while the original plaster casts of his sculptures (present in museums worldwide) are preserved in the Canova Museum.

Such a landscape of artists still today influences a rich artisan production, from wine and food to fashion, ceramics and design.
