36061 Bassano del Grappa VI
The bridge over the Brenta river, called Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), Ponte di Bassano (Bassano Bridge) or Ponte degli Alpini (dedicated to Italian Alpine troops), located in the town of Bassano del Grappa, is considered one of the most distinctive bridges in Italy. Built entirely of wood and covered, it has undergone numerous interventions and reconstructions since its first construction, documented in 1209 by Gerardo Maurisio. The current bridge is based on a design by Andrea Palladio dated 1569.
On March 2nd, 2014, the Ponte Vecchio has been temporarily closed because it was considered unstable and in need of reconstruction.
