Campedel Square

Piazza dei Martiri (Martyrs' Square, also known as Campedel) in Belluno has a semi-circular shape. Historical studies have suggested that this form derives from the shooting range of the cannon that was once placed on the top of the fortified tower of the city, which no longer exists. In fact, the square is located just outside the walls of the ancient city.

Piazza dei Martiri is Belluno’s central square, one of the jewels of the city.

The small church of San Rocco is located under the arcades.

The neoclassical Teatro Comunale (Municipal Theatre) stands east of the square. The long porches, with many cafes, flank the square on both sides and invite you to linger there.
